Solar photo paper is a UV-sensitive paper from the early days of photography that works with cyanotype. It essentially creates a blueprint. English scientist, photographer and astronomer John Herschel discovered this process in 1842. It was used for at least 100 years as a relatively inexpensive and convenient way to multiply drawings. By applying the drawing to be multiplied to calque paper and the photographic paper underneath, a UV light source above it allowed a print to be made on the photographic paper.

This is how it works: after a short exposure to the sun, spread-out objects release their outlines, like a silhouette. Only tap water is needed for developing and fixing; a darkroom is not necessary.
